RGM TrainingsRonnie Gardiner Methode

Become a practitioner — training offer

For anyone who works with individual clients and/or groups with conditions of the central nervous system, and who wants to enrich their own professional toolkit, RGM is a valuable addition. Think of healthcare (hospitals, rehabilitation centres, private practices) and education (teachers, remedial teachers, teaching assistants).

The training consists of two modules: module 1, the introduction, and module 2, the follow-up with certification. After module 2 you have enough tools to compose a varied programme for all kinds of target groups. To become a certified RGM practitioner you need both modules. Module 2 must be completed within a year after module 1.

There is a third module. It is reserved for practitioners who know the method well and have experience with it. Module 3 deepens RGM further.

Besides these open modules we also offer the training as an in-company course: a team of 8 to 14 care professionals follows it at their own location.

Teachers: courses are given by Mariken Jaspers and André de Jong, both RGM practitioner and trainer, trained by Ronnie Gardiner. The course is accredited by SRVB, KNGF and ADAP.

This is the training offer of RGM Nederland. To find a practitioner, research and the intranet, stay on that site. The course terms apply to every course.

Module 1 · 2 days, 9.00–17.00

Module 1, the introductory course

The training to become an RGM practitioner takes four days in total, given in two parts: module 1 and 2. Module 1 is a thorough introduction (2 days). In this module you

  • get to know the basic principles and background of RGM and practise a great deal with the material.
  • learn about neuroplasticity and recent scientific insights.
  • learn about the effect of rhythm on the brain and recent scientific insights.
  • work on basic music analysis: which music suits RGM and how to apply it. You do not need a musical education.

After module 1, participants are expected to practise the basics of RGM and to prepare and give at least eight lessons to a practice group, as preparation for module 2.

Accreditation The course is accredited by KNGF, ADAP and SRVB. Points are awarded after successful completion of module 2.

Module 2 · 2 days, 9.00–17.00

Module 2, follow-up plus certification

Module 1 is required before module 2. During this two-day follow-up we cover:

  • deepening and broadening RGM; new material is introduced and practised extensively.
  • how RGM can be used for specific groups such as Parkinson’s, stroke/ABI, MS, dementia and children.
  • a deeper practical music analysis: which music suits RGM and how to apply it. You do not need a musical education.

Each participant also presents an exercise of their own. After the course, if you meet the criteria, you are certified as an RGM practitioner and have the tools to offer RGM professionally in healthcare and (special) education.

Accreditatie

  • Physiotherapy (KNGF) 27 points
  • Exercise therapy (ADAP) 36 points
  • Speech therapy (ADAP) 36 points
  • Music therapy (register Vaktherapie) 28 points
  • Occupational therapy (ADAP) 36 points

After successfully completing module 2 you are an internationally certified RGM practitioner. RGM Nederland supports practitioners in the Netherlands, individually and collectively, among other things by:

  1. representing RGM at conferences and with researchers, clinicians, patient organisations and social media;
  2. matching supply and demand (we regularly receive requests for a practitioner);
  3. access to the intranet with ready-made exercise material, a forum, measurement tools, promotion material, articles, presentation drafts and photos;
  4. listing on the RGM Nederland website under ‘find a practice’, possibly with several locations;
  5. support with questions by phone or email;
  6. organising an annual national practitioners’ day.

For this support, a yearly fee of € 70.00 including VAT is asked from the year after you become a practitioner. You may opt out. Please email contact@rgm-opleidingen.nl by 31 November before the new year (1 January).

Module 3 · 2 days, 9.00–17.00

Module 3, the advanced course

If you are experienced in RGM and want a further step as a practitioner, you can take a third module, the advanced course. During these two days we cover:

  • the last 6 symbols/movements plus variations on familiar symbols
  • diagonal movements, moving across an imaginary midline
  • special exercise forms
  • a deeper look at the theory

For coordination and motor skills this is the most challenging module. It is especially useful for children, healthy older adults, Parkinson’s and MS. After successful completion, participants become master RGM practitioners.

In-company training

Bring music, movement and pleasure to your care team. An in-company RGM course trains 8 to 14 care professionals as certified RGM practitioners. The training takes place at your own location, in a familiar setting and at a time that suits the organisation.

Colleagues learn together and can take the knowledge straight into daily care. We tailor the course to the needs and work situation of the team. The route is the same as the open training: module 1 and module 2.

Who is it for?

The training is open to, among others:

  • Music therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Mensendieck and Cesar exercise therapists
  • Speech therapists
  • Teachers in (special) primary education
  • Occupational therapists
  • (Psychiatric, Parkinson’s and MS) nurses
  • Music and movement agogues
  • Remedial teachers
  • Movement and music agogues

Participants are expected to have an affinity with music (you do not need to play an instrument) and a sense of rhythm, and to be able to put what they learn into practice. If you are unsure, please contact us so we can see together whether the training fits.
